GENERAL MANAGER – MEAT PROCESSING BUSINESS UNIT
 
THE COMPANY
 
Our client is a major cattle feeding company based in Jakarta, Indonesia. It is a subsidiary of highly diversified Indonesian conglomerate with core businesses in agriculture, property, life insurance and investments.
The company currently has an 85,000 head per annum feeding operation with ambitious plans to expand. The company enjoys an enviable competitive advantage on feed costs and wishes to fully exploit its position by investing in value-added downstream processing capabilities, including but not limited to primary processing and value-added downstream beef product offerings.
 
THE POSITION
 
The company seeks to recruit a General Manager of a new business unit charged to identify and evaluate potential new business opportunities and implement agreed strategies.
 
This position will develop the company’s overall cattle new business strategy as well as engage the team to achieve superior business results on the existing business. This position will have responsibility to identify and to determine the economics of various expansion opportunities and develop plans to implement them including development of revenue potential and evaluation of costs. The initial plan will require identification of likely new products and business lines, related capital investments to support the plan, sales and marketing support (staffing and programs), an appropriate evaluation of various cattle breeds, channels of distribution and distributor networks to be employed, and projected returns. This will require close coordination and collaboration with other existing group businesses.
 
A key to success will be execution. The successful candidate will have startup expertise as well as experience managing an expanding base cattle business. He/she will have knowledge and experience with various cattle breeds and have some knowledge of the regional market dynamics, culture, and competition.
 
LOCATION     : Jakarta, Indonesia
 
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
 
 A strong meat products development, marketing, procurement, and logistics leader who has an in-depth knowledge of cattle and protein product markets and how to profitably source, distribute, and sell products in the Indonesian marketplace.
 
 A strong strategic new business development focus will be important.   
 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES
 
 Develop and implement the strategy of meat products of the cattle business to support the existing live cattle business.
 
 Provide leadership to profitably develop and market cattle-based meat products (both fresh and further processed) for the Indonesian market.
 
 Ensure the realization of fast growth and responsibility in all aspects of the business.
 
 Build a strong understanding of supply chain management practices in the organization.
 
 Work very closely and cooperatively with all parts of the extended affiliates to optimize utilization of existing and future resources to accomplish growth objectives and protect current operating margins.
 
 Together with cattle production, expand the current capacities as well as future new product development capabilities that are economically viable.
 
 Network with and develop potential major distribution channels to optimize the value for GS Group.
 
 Provide visionary and wise management of supplier & distribution channels, as these are critical to success
 
LOCATION: This position will be stationed in Jakarta but the incumbent will be frequently required to travel and stay in Lampung near the cattle feeding operations.
 
 
GENERAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
 
The ideal candidate will have:
 
 Broad and deep knowledge of primary and secondary processed meat products and markets and a track record of success in new site and new product development and business development, including sourcing, sales, marketing, and distribution options
 
 Experience negotiating, implementing, and succeeding with international supply agreements in multiple cultural environments
 
 An obsession to deliver to GGLC Group’s network and other customers a lowest cost, highly competitive portfolio of new products
 
 An understanding of how to optimize GGLC Group’s supply chain
 
 Sound judgment, highest integrity, intelligence, high energy, and flexibility within the structure.
 
 A data-driven, analytical, and action-oriented mindset with the ability to think strategically
 
 Excellent communication skills that generate confidence for him/herself and the organization, be it with suppliers, other company executives, or internal and external customers
 
 Sound team management skills and leadership capabilities including strategic vision, excellent interpersonal skills, and superior relationship building ability
 
 Leadership and general management capabilities to expand his/her responsibilities as needs and opportunities arise
 
 
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
 
 7-10 years relevant management experience, preferably in launching new products with FMCG companies and protein product development project work. Experience in Indonesia/Asia/Australia is an asset
 
 Strong knowledge of cattle processing and value added protein product development.
 
 Experience identifying, evaluating, and managing growth
 
 Experience managing a P&L for a major operating division  
 
 A Master’s degree in Agriculture, Business Administration, or Commerce is preferred.
 
LANGUAGE
 
Strong English language capability. Knowledge of Bahasa Indonesia would be an advantage.
 
COMPENSATION
 
Commensurate with experience and in line with market expectation.
